(1) Know more about spirituality and religion

So, you think that you are spiritual and religious because you spend time in front of God; burn incense; say your prayers; read religious books; observe fast on a particular day every week; visit the temple, mosque, church, gurudwara or any other place of worship prescribed in your religion. Yes, to most of the populace, these are the signs of being religious or spiritual. Think deeply and you will find many questions arising on this entire process. These questions are about definitions of Spirituality; Religion; God; Proper Ways of Praying; Ethics and the True Meaning of Our Lives.

Some people may find the topic to be controversial but nevertheless, let’s try to find sensible answers of these questions.

First of all, we will examine both the terms- Religion and Spirituality. At the outset, it can be said that these are definitely not the same even if used in the same sense.

What is religion?

Therefore, it comes out that the religion is a combination of a person’s beliefs and his or her method of worship. It also requires observing certain rules. Let’s go into the purpose. We find that the purpose of the religion is to strengthen your faith in God and build your character. So, it is more like joining an army where one has to follow certain discipline. It definitely improves your quality of life. However, legendary U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln had expressed about religion, “When I do good, I feel good, when I do bad I feel bad, and that's my religion.”

That is the proper essence of religion. Our attitude towards other human beings; animals and birds; environment, and our behavior with them, are the true pointers of our religious beliefs. Rather, it requires you to be full of virtues; be kind and compassionate and keep a positive mind.

Therefore, observe fasts; go to the place of worship; spend time in front of God; sing hymns; and observe any religious practices but be a true human being in practice. There is no place for there is no place for intolerance in it. Basically, religion teaches us a proper way of living.

What is spirituality?

Joseph John Campbell, an American professor of literature of 20th century who specialized in the field of mythology had said about the Spirituality as "Your sacred space is where you can find yourself over and over again."

Soul is not a body part. It is within us. Therefore, anything pertaining to the soul also called the spirit within becomes spiritual. Spirituality is, essentially, enlightening the soul. The goal of spirituality is to strengthen the mind and realize the supreme power present within all of us.

A happy balance of the religion and the spirituality

This perfect combination is the best way to ensure success of a man as a human being.  Successes and failures become insignificant for a spiritual person. However, if he or she is truly religious also, the person’s character is reinforced.

Religion may be a certain group based on beliefs and rules but spirituality is common for all the individuals. Religion makes one strong and spirituality disciplines him or her. One can make out that a truly spiritual person may or may not follow any particular religion.

Who is GOD?

GOD is a supreme power. HE is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. HE created this universe. HE controls and HIS power is beyond human imagination.

We can take GOD as our navigator. HE navigates all the living creatures even at the cellular level. It is amazingly true that every microscopic change in each and every cell is designed and executed by HIM.

GOD is our most dependable friend taking care of us all the time.

Prayer

Prayer cannot be said to have any proper way of it. You don’t need not to sit in any particular posture; at a fixed time; sing fixed number of hymns; chant verses; burn incense; observe fasts; or follow any kind of rule book. The best place to pray is solitude from anywhere in the world at any time. The only requirement of prayer is to be able to connect with HIM. It is like meeting a very dear friend and at that time, nobody wants to be disturbed? Similarly, we should pray the ALMIGHTY, with full attention.

Ethics

Ethics symbolize our moral behavior and not being idealistic. Ethics require the person to be full of positivity in his or her approach towards life. Ethics enable us to take decisions in the best interest of everybody. These surely, determine our conduct, with not only human beings but animals, plants and nature also. Ethics is a kind of moral map work to guide the person on the intriguing ways of spending life.

Life- Its true meaning

A person is not born just to get education; choose career; get married; raise family and die. He or she is part of the society getting many things from it and, therefore, is obliged to pay back to it. This can be done by helping the needy and poor silently without making any hue and cry about it.

Similarly, a person requires protecting the environment. It needs to be realized that environment is to be left in topmost condition for the future generations. The use of environment should be need-based instead of being greed-based.

We must always remember what Mahatma Gandhi had said, “The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone's greed.”

Conclusion

It can be safely concluded that we just need to follow moral path. If we realize the essence of religion and spirituality, the world would become a much better place to live.
